Is the Carnivore Diet Really Working?
Brandon and I started the carnivore diet two weeks ago... Honestly, it has been hard for me. Brandon has will power like I have never seen and I obviously do not possess that same quality. I do have to admit though that I like the way I feel, I am beginning to notice some extra room in my shirts and even have seen my weight trending down about 7lbs so far. So while, I cannot say that I am enjoying eating this much meat, I am seeing results.
What method are we following? We are eating our certified organic grass-fed, grass-finished beef, pasture raised chicken eggs and the occasional chicken or pork. We also are eating raw milk and cheese to help balance out the meat and make our meals a little more exciting. 😏 The first 30 days are considered a cleanse and if you continue through 60 days it is a whole body reset. We may end up continuing through 60 days but maybe add in a few fruits and vegetables along the way to see how our bodies respond. Many people with chronic illnesses use this 60 day reset as a method to then add back one ingredient at a time to determine what may cause flare ups/sensitivities.
Mental and physical benefits... as I mentioned above I have extra room in my clothes and have seen the numbers improving on the scale. I still have quite a bit of room for improvement but am feeling more energized and able to focus. With the amount of protein we are eating, I also feel full longer which makes it easier to not snack. Overall, the positive changes I see outweigh my lack of enthusiasm haha.
It seemed hard at first because Brandon was so excited to try new recipes and I was in a state of overwhelm that it was hard to get on track with one another while also meal prepping for our kids. Two weeks in and I can say that we are more in sync with each other and have paired down our meals a bit to make it easier to still provide nutritious meals to our kids (with all the food groups) without being overwhelmed by sinks full of dishes and strange ingredients I wouldn't normally use.
Bottom line, this diet is NOT for everyone (please do your own research before trying it as some medical conditions may worsen if you are not eating the correct nutrients, ie. those with kidney disease). This diet is also NOT for long term use. Use it for a cleanse or a body reset until your favorite fruits and vegetables are in season again or don't use it at all... What is right for us is not right for everyone.
Happy Tuesday!
